When you go to google.co.uk and search for something you are not searching the ‘internet’, you are searching the google database.
It’s important to remember that Google is not the Internet, Google is just an absolute ton of stored websites and pages on a lot of Google servers.
Website’s get onto this google database by something called indexing, which is where computer bots (or spiders as they are called) from Google scan websites and make decisions to add the websites to the google database.
So google has all this stored info in its database, you then come along and search for a product of service using google.
Google reads your query and scans its database and finds millions of websites and images that relate to your actual search query.
It then gives you a list of all the results it has on the topic or keyword you searched starting at page 1.
It lists these results in order of relevance to what Google thinks is the best matching websites to your query.
All this happens in under 1 second.
With SEO we are able to influence what Google thinks is the best matching websites to search queries.
